Deadside 1.0 Review: Stuck Between DayZ and Rust

I’ve had it for years and always enjoy jumping back in, even if it’s just to get destroyed by bots. It’s very fun when I play it. I stopped playing because it lacked players, but now, with version 1.0, I’m eager to hop on and try it out again!

For me, it’s DayZ without the need to run and a gun around a gun for 20 hours or Rust without hitting trees with rocks for hours. It’s fun PvP and a good game. Weirdly, it’s not more popular.

I refuse to play this “game” until I can play on my server. Bad review until then. Feels like a poor man’s DayZ without zombies. Barely a game. But it’s a fantastic game, too.

I liked it a lot when I got it. It was a great open-world survival shooter. It was not as complicated as DayZ but more complex than Rust. Speaking of Rust, this game turned into Rust, and nobody likes Rust. So, I can’t recommend this to anyone.

Painfully generic. Nothing sets it apart from all the other open-world survival Unreal engine games. It’s a modded DayZ server without zombies on the Unreal engine. It has traders, random missions, and a lot of running. A lot has been added since I bought it. There was room for potential.

But with version 1.0, my highest praise is that it didn’t crash. It functions, and maybe it will scratch your itch. But many games do what it does better. Worth $10 at most.

This game wants to fit between DayZ and Rust with its twist. It runs a simulator and has janky gameplay. The game died out, so they did an asset flip with Dockside, which will probably be another flop.

I’ve waited for so long for meaningful content. To make the world feel alive. To reduce brain-dead gameplay where, you’re forced to play every day to keep your base from decaying. It’s an idiotic feature for a game with less than 100 players weekly.

The developers are money-hungry. You still have to pay to make a server with friends. Never give cash to developers who want your money to play with friends. Please ignore this game and let it die like it is to.

I can write a review for some reason, but I don’t even own the game! This game would be okay if it had been released 8 years ago. It feels like a free-to-play game.

It has improved a lot since early access. I recommend it now that it is reaching 1.0 status. However, as we can’t host our servers locally, renting a server is the only option, and I don’t recommend it. I’ll be surprised if it’s alive in 2 months unless we can host our servers.

Likes:

  • Small developer team still making improvements
  • Mass updates that make the game better
  • Good for the price

Dislikes:

  • AI needs better mechanics (probably being worked on)
  • AI should attack more indiscriminately (wolves, bandits, soldiers)
  • Improve loot variety (weapon mods)

I’ve played for over a year. It’s a good game with potential. Other than the community, it needs to be complete. Let’s keep it growing.
